Chase Those Ants Away With Natural Essential Oils

Have you had those pesky little ants this summer? I have had ants big and small, off and on. The last two years though, I have not had a problem. But this year, I’ve had tiny, tiny brown ants, hundreds of them! I think the extreme heat may be one reason for it. They may be trying to get in where it’s cool. Who knows? Anyway…
What I did…
In years past, I used peppermint essential oil and a blend called Purification to get rid of those pests with good results, so that’s what I chose to use again. I simply filled up a spray bottle ( you can get one at a dollar store), with water and added 20 drops of each of these oils. I shook it up well and went outside first and sprayed around the kitchen doors and anywhere else I thought they could get in. Then I sprayed around the inside of the doors and on the countertops and anywhere else I saw them.
What happened…
The ants slowed down immediately and within a minute or so were DEAD! The ones that managed to escape and hide, which really wasn’t many, got sprayed later and the same thing happened.
Natural essential oils is so much better than using those toxic sprays on the market that can harm the health of your family and pets. Especially if you have children you Do Not want to use those commercial sprays. Essential oils also cost less to use and they smell great! Peppermint oil is also good for focus and concentration. An added benefit!
Get the kids involved…
Children naturally love to learn and be a part of what you’re doing, so start teaching them how to stay healthy early. Since organic essential oils are safe for children, you can teach them how to make up the spray themselves. That’s what my grandson Tyler does. My daughter had some troublesome ants this summer, and Tyler jumped in and made up the peppermint and Purification oils and started spraying. So whenever he sees ants, he knows what oils to use and what to do. Make it fun too, by spreading a line of peppermint oil in front of the ants on the patio or floor to see if they will cross it. They will actually head the other way!
Will the ants come back?
I have not had ants return in some areas of the kitchen, but in other areas they did…but not nearly as many. Just keep spraying. It doesn’t take long until they STOP coming!
Prevention…
- Make sure you don’t leave even tiny bits of food on counters or tables, or dirty dishes in the sink.
- Also keep the floor swept and/or mopped because bits of food can also be there.
- Spray around your porch, door steps and under the sink.
I also put a drop of peppermint and Purification oils on a cotton ball and leave it where the ants like to come.
