Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the United States. Right now, it is only second to cancer in the number of fatalities. All indications show that the numbers will only continue to increase as factors like poor diet and stress spread around the entire country and even the world.
There are many possible causes of heart disease. It could be a heart defect that has been there from the very start. It could be continuous abuse from over exertion and stress and it could even be because of a poor diet. In most cases, it is actually a combination of one or two factors or even all of them. One of the major things that happen to your body as caused by these factors and sometimes the result is a sky rocketing cholesterol count.
Cholesterol is composed of two types, LDL and HDL. The LDL is what is considered bad cholesterol because a large occurrence of this in the blood is thought to lead to heart attack and stroke. The LDL is believed to be an irritant to the linings of the arteries and leads to hardening of the artery walls.
Fortunately, there are ways we can naturally increase our HDL levels and lower the levels of HDL in our blood. Here are some of the things you and all the people you know can do to help lower the levels of bad cholesterol and increase the much needed instances of good cholesterol. Hopefully, we can help limit your risk for heart disease and possibly save your life in the long run.
The first thing one person can do to improve on his or her levels of bad and good cholesterol is to incorporate a rigorous level of exercise to your daily schedule. Studies show that exercise is a great way to strengthen the walls of the arteries. Furthermore, exercise is a very good way to increase the HDL levels which are the good cholesterol that cancels out the bad cholesterol LDL.
The diet of a person is also important if you want to get your cholesterol levels right. The bad cholesterol can be eaten in the red meat you eat every single day. Oxidized cholesterol which has shown to increase the harmful deposits in the blood vessels is present in fried and processed foods. To give yourself a fighting chance, you must at least try to minimize eating fried foods if not eliminate it altogether.
Eating more of foods that contain the good cholesterol is also important if you want to become healthy and decrease bad cholesterol in the blood. Some fish like tuna and salmon are rich with Omega 3 oils that help deal with the cholesterol. Some of the other foods that can help your body deal with the cholesterol also include artichoke leaf and fiber.
Artichoke leaf helps the liver speed up the process and makes the process of bile more efficient. Hence, the body is able to expel bad cholesterol faster. Some of the fiber rich foods you can try out include oats, rye, carrots, Brussels sprouts and fruits like apples, prunes just to name a few.
Lowering cholesterol and working to get healthy is an important task and thus it should be done the right way. Before beginning a new diet plan or exercise regimen, consult your doctor.
